What is skate UK all about?
Learning to skate is good fun – especially if you are on the nationally recognised Skate UK Program. The programme is designed by the National Ice Skating Association to give a structured approach to group tuition. Solihull Ice Rink has been running this course for many years.
Who is Skate UK aimed at?
Skate UK is designed for all beginner skaters aged between six and sixty – you are never too old to learn. Whether you wish to take your skating more seriously in the future or merely want to gain confidence on the ice, Skate UK is the place where it all begins. There are five progressive levels, taking you from the absolute basics through to some fairly tricky turns and jumps. You can stop whenever you reach your desired level – but with certificates at every level, you can’t resist the temptation to get all five? The Skate UK course runs on a saturday morning.
We also run a fun ice skating course on a Sunday morning from 10.30am to 11.00am where you will learn how to skate based on Skate UK level 1.
What can I do after Skate UK?
Many of the clubs require a minimum level of profiency before you are able to join them. You may also wish to take private lessons from one of the professional coaches based at the rink – these are people that could turn you into a skating star of the future….
You may also want to learn how to skate so that you can enjoy ice skating in the public session once you have mastered all the basic skills.
What does it cost?
Both the Saturday and Sunday courses are 5 week courses of a half hour long group lesson, costing only £32.00 per person. Skate hire is not included and costs only £1.60 per child and £1.80 per adult. It also includes FREE entry onto the public session which follows the course – giving you a chance to practice what you have been taught (great value for money). Certificates for each completed level are also included in the price (Saturday only). Tests are on week five (Saturday only) and you can also enroll in the next level of the course.
How do I enrol?
Come along to Solihull Ice Rink and complete an enrolment form and return it to the box office with your payment or simply call 0121 742 5561 ext 7 and book your lessons over the telephone. Major credit cards accepted. We regret that due to the time taken to register on the Skate UK courses and the need to book instructors in advance, we cannot accept enrolments on the day of the course.
